Good Morning! Wed May 18th, 2021
I hope this morning has you motivated to move mountains!
Things are good here. Yesterday I woke up refreshed and happy at Brendan and Rachell’s place. Had breakfast and coffee with their daughter Charlotte and read a little bit to Charlotte before heading out with the family to Descanso Gardens. Descanso Gardens is a fantastic place. There is a Japanese Garden, Rose Garden, and a Lilac garden, to name just a few.
Before we left, Charlotte showed me the shrub maze that they have there, and we played a quick game of hide and seek. (Charlotte won ;). )
After the gardens, we went to the tickle tree for a pleasant little lunch and then dropped Rachel and Charlotte off at the park before Brendan and I headed back to the house, where I packed up, said my goodbye’s, and hit the road to head to Tehachapi.
Outside of Tehachapi, I met up with my friend Faisal and gave him a ride into Tehachapi, where he had rented a hotel room for us for the evening. Faisal is hiking the pacific crest trail and finishing up his 5th week on the trail. So we got to our room, cleaned up, went through all of his pack, caught up, and then headed out into the town to get some dinner and have a beer. Man, it was good to catch up with him. He had started this journey with the idea of just making it the first 500 miles and seeing how he is doing, and now he is fully committed to the hike. He is expecting that he will be done (which is at the Canadian border) sometime in sept \ oct time frame. We will meet up with him again when he gets into Washington, and have a big party for all of our friends.
Today I’m going to run Faisal to the store, and we are going to get some provisions (I’m going to look for a better camp chair, the one I brought is just so uncomfortable.). Then later this afternoon, he will get back on the trail. I’ll likely hike with him on the trail for maybe an hour before turning around to my car.
From there, I will drive back into the LA area to meet up with my friend Jule and her family to hang out with them.
