Day 24 – Sun City West

Good morning! Thursday, May 27th, 2021

I hope that today you uncover a unique undulating day where you don’t need an umbrella!

Yesterday was a pleasant day with Mom. We started with an excellent breakfast at the house, and then we drove on over to the Wrigley mansion over in Phoenix. That was an impressive place. Wrigley (of the gum and Chicago white Sox fame) had this house built in the early 1930s as an anniversary gift for his wife. He passed in the home in 1932, so he didn’t have that much time to enjoy it. The Hormel family later purchased it, and now they open it up to the public. All of the tours were sold out, so we just wandered around the house. It is not a museum, that is for sure, as there are no interpretive signs or anything to help you understand the context of the home or the time. They are some telegraphs that were exchanged between Wrigley and his architect on display. The whole house has been set up as an events space now.

After that, mom and I headed into Scottsdale, where we stopped for lunch at the Barrio Queen, and that was quite good. We then wandered around the little shopping district that is there and stopped in at Pussycat Gelato for some of the best pineapple and mango sorbet I think I have ever had!

We left Scottsdale and came back to Mom’s house for naps (it is hot down here). We got up from our Naps and headed to Fry’s to pick up some water softener salt before heading to the Theatre.

At the Theatre (stage left productions), I met Cody, the director, before the show and had a friendly chat with him. The show, The Dollhouse part 2, was quite good, and the performances were excellent.

Mom is heading for the airport for a flight to Spokane to see Aunt Do this morning, and I will be leaving shortly after her. In the meantime, I am getting some laundry done.

Tomorrow I am picking up Jack, and we will go camping for a couple of days.

Love ya
