Day 25 – Sun City West – Prescott

Good Morning! Friday, May 28th, 2021

I hope that today finds you very full of vigor and vitality!

Things are good here. Yesterday morning I got up, did some laundry, had breakfast with Mom, and reloaded my car for the rest of my trip. Mom rolled out of her place at about 9:30 to catch her flight to Spokane to her sister Dorris. I rolled out of her place shortly thereafter.

From there, I went and put some fuel in the car, and checked the oil, and then made a stop at Big 5 to get a patch kit for my therma rest.

From there, I started heading up high way 89 towards Prescott. Along the way, I stopped in Wickenberg. There I walked all over the little town, poking my nose into little shops and the like. I also visited the l Desert Caballeros Western Museum. The museum was hosting a rather large art installation called Cowgirl Up, representing female artists of the west. There was a LOT of impressive art there. In the lower level, they had an interpretive museum of the area and the history of gold, ranching, and the train coming through Wickenberg. It was all quite fascinating.

I was going to write about my lunch, but it was nothing to write home about πŸ˜‰

From Wickenberg, I headed out to see the Vulture ranch, which is what founded the area. Alas, when I got to the location, there was nothing to see but back yards. So I headed out.

Highway 89 is a fabulous road when it winds through the mountains. It was 14 miles of super curvy, twisted well-maintained roadway. Before I popped out of the Prescott national forest, I pulled into a campground to check it out before heading into Prescott proper. There I parked by the Courthouse and wandered around whiskey road. I called Jack, and he came down and met me, and we did some planning for our next couple of days of camping. Before we split up, we headed over to the hiking store, and he picked up some supplies, and I bought a new camp chair. It was expensive, but it is so much more comfortable than the one I left home with.

I then headed back to the campground, found an empty spot, pitched my tent, and had a pleasant evening listening to my Audio Book on the history of the Caribbean pirates.

Today I’m going to meet up with Jack. We will do some shopping and then set up camp for the weekend and hang out.

Love ya
