Good Morning! Sat, May 28th, 2021
I hope today you can watch some ducklings waddle to a pond to do some whacky wadding.
Things are good here. Yesterday morning I got up, made myself some breakfast, and had a lovely slow morning at the campsite I was at. I broke camp after a bit and headed into Prescott and just started driving around aimlessly for a bit. I ended up heading out towards where Jack and I were going to camp. I let Jack know that I was up, and he let me know that he was up, so I headed over to pick him and penny up.
The night before, we had planned our menu for the next couple of days, so we headed over to the grocery store to do the shopping. Well, neither of us are experienced campers, so we ended up with almost $200 worth of food for the three days of camping, and between that and his pack, the car was super packed, but it did all fit.
We then headed out Thumb Butte road to find a campsite for the next couple of days. The road is rather un-improved, but it was passable with my car. We did go forward at just barely a crawl, though. There were plenty of these campsites out here in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) area we were in, so we picked one and started setting up camp. While we were setting up camp, the ranger came by and gave us some info (mostly that the fire risk is high, and the only fires that are allowed) have an on \ off switch (like a camp stove). After camp was set up, Jack made us some sandwiches for lunch. After lunch, it was getting pretty hot, so we decided to lay down and take naps for a bit until it cooled off.
After our naps, we headed out for a hike around the area. We ended up making a loop of about 3 miles, and that was very pleasant. When we got back to camp, it was time to cook up some dinner. Dinner was fajitas, so we sliced up the peppers and onions, and I grilled those up with some taco spices (along with some mushrooms), and Jack cooked up some rice. We mixed a can of beans in with the rice and had an excellent meal.
After cleaning up, we sat around until the sun went down and then crawled into our tents and slept the night away.
Today we plan on taking another hike, and just sitting around and bullshitting 😉
