Day 39 – to Whitefish Montana

Good Morning! Friday, June 11th, 2021

I hope today finds you fit and fancy and ready to take on the day!

Yesterday was a nice easy day’s drive for me. I decided that I would head for Glacier National Park, go in the east entrance, drive over the road, and then out to Whitefish. Well… it turns out that they are trying to control the number of visitors that they allow in the park, so between the hours of 2 and 6, you have to not only have to pay admission, but you also have to attain one of a limited number of available passes. They release 2/3rd’s of the passes 60 days in advance, and the other one-third a 2 days in advance. Well…by the time I got it through my thick head, what both Judy and Balin, and my friend Kat were trying to tell me, and I got on the reservation site, all of the passes were gone for the day. I had considered just trying to bluff my way into the park. But considering all of the big signs on the way to the park, and the sign at the entrance to the park that said “have your pass and ID ready”. I figured that the only response I would get was something along the lines of “what did you think all of those signs meant?” So I drove on past the park and headed for Whitefish.

At Whitefish, I pulled into our friend Kat’s dads’ place for a visit. And he invited me to spend the night and gave me a chance to do laundry. Pat sr. has been out here in Montana for six years now, and he has a great little house in town. It’s like three blocks from the downtown core and is just wonderful. I have always enjoyed visiting with Pat, and this time did not disappoint. After I gave him a whirlwind tour of what is going on in my life, he showed me around his place, and we caught up about what is going on with him. He loves everything about living out here, except for the winters. But it nets out for him.

For Dinner, we met his son Pat jr. At a place called the great northern. This place is an authentic local place and looks like a great place to hang out on the weekend after skiing or during a football game.

Today’s plan is to make it over to Judy and Balin’s place, hang out with them for the evening, and then head on over to Do and Tom’s place tomorrow.

I can feel the end of this road trip breathing down my neck. I’m looking forward to being home, and I am looking forward to planning the next trip that I will take with Catherine as we figure out what we might like for a long-term rig.

Love you!

I was able to find some more motor oil for my car. I will definitely have enough to make it home now!
What a cool little dinosaur museum that I found on highway 89.
They are doing work to free the fossils from the matrix.
This is a model of the skeleton of the largest Dino to ever live. (That we know of)
This is as close as I got to the park (It was raining, so it was OK)
This is the backyard of Pat’s house
My car safely nestled in the driveway
Pat’s hobby is distilling, so we geeked out about that for while
