Good Morning! Monday, June 14th, 2021
I hope that today a pleasant songbird sings you a lovely song.
Things are good here. Yesterday was an excellent day on the road. I had a nice slow start out of the campground, which felt marvelous to sit and enjoy the outdoors. The primary goal of yesterday was to make it to Pendleton, Oregon, to visit my friend Rodney and his distillery.
Along the way, I stopped in Dayton. In Dayton, they have the oldest remaining train depot. They have turned it into a little bit of a museum, but alas, it was closed on Sunday. My Uncle Tom used to do relief operator work out of this station before getting his full-time job in Marengo.
From there, I rolled into Pendleton, Oregon, to visit Rodney. In 2015 he started a distillery, and since then, it has grown into quite the operation. He gave me a tour of the place, and we reminisced about working together back at Starwave. I grabbed a chicken Bomb sandwich off of their menu, and man was it good! Before I left, I grabbed a couple of bottles of his product.
After I left Rodney, I stopped in at the Pendleton Mills and picked myself up a woolen blanket. I used it last night instead of my sleeping bag, and I think I found my new favorite blanket 🙂
From there, I took a bunch of back roads towards the foot of the cascade range. The map app said I would be there just about 9 pm (which is after sundown). Well, about 8 pm I passed the sign for the cottonwood canyon campsite, so I decided to pull in there, and man, was it pleasant. It was nice to stop with some daylight left in the day. I took a little walk down to the river, and then I walked about a half-mile down the river on the trail.
Today’s plan has me heading over to my buddy Dan’s place in the Portland area. I will be going over some mountain back roads, and I am looking forward to that!
Love ya!
Dan W
