Good Morning! Tuesday, June 23rd, 2021
I hope that today finds you in a position to enjoy and appreciate the fantastic weather.
Yesterday was a pretty good day. I started the day by making the lunches for everyone (deli meat sandwiches with tomato, onion, lettuce, pickles). I also created one for Alex, so he would have something to eat on his boat. We then got Corvo ready to go racing for the day. One of the nice things about racing in race week is that we leave the boat rigged at the end of the day, so it becomes easier and quicker every morning to get ready to go.
The day was beautiful when we slipped away from the dock and started the 30-minute motor out to the racecourse, and it would stay beautiful all day long.
We had a nice strong northerly all day long in the 10-14 knot range, which made for some spirited sailing. That wind range is also nice because you are not having to work like a dog to keep the boat racing.
Our class, the J-105’s, got three races in, all sailing the same course. Each race was two laps, making sure that the competitors can get their spinnakers up and down twice in a race (which can be a trick). Since the 5 of us haven’t raced together that much, we still have some rough spots, especially getting the spinnaker down, but things were getting pretty smooth by the end of the day.
Between the 2nd and 3rd race, the boat leading our fleet was involved in a non-racing collision, which prevented them from sailing in the 3rd race. That dropped them from first place to 3rd place, only one point ahead of us.
Currently, we are sitting in 3rd place, with just as much chance to improve our position, as to be able to fall down the standings.
After the racing, we came back to the marina and had a lovely warm, pleasant evening. Dinner was at a little food truck that was serving tacos and the like. Once we were done with dinner, we just sat on the boat and talked until everyone drifted off to sleep.
Today plans to race some more 😉
Love ya
Dan W
